was able to drive. His parents used to bring him to the fire department for meetings, training and fire

calls. Before Ashton turned 18, you could tell that he was very dedicated to his community and was

going to be an outstanding member of our department and represent us well in public. When

Ashton turned 18 he obtained full firefighter status.

Ashton won several awards while he was a member including Junior Firefighter, Firefighter and

Engineer of the year, all of these voted on by his peers. Ashton had graduated from Arendall

Parrott Academy and was furthering his education at East Carolina Univ. His goal was to study

Criminal Law and become a defense lawyer.Ashton was a Junior at ECU when on June 22, 2006 he

had a tragic end to his young life.

Along with his parents the fire department decided to honor him by giving a scholarship to a graduating senior in his memory
